Attharates:
a-thar'-a-tez: A title assigned to Nehemiah, probably by a later editor (Ne 8:9). The Septuagint omits the title; the Vulgate (Jerome's Latin Bible, 390-405 A. D.) gives "Athersatha"; the King James Version reads "Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha." Tirshatha is the Persian title for a local or provincial governor (Ne 8:9 = 1 Esdras 9:49).
See TIRSHATHA
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
