I. THE NATURE OF THIS PHILOSOPHY.
A. Inseparably connected with vain deceit.
1. They regarded Christianity mainly as philosophy.
a. A search for truth.
b. Christianity is a revelation of a truth in Christ.
II. ORIGIN OF THIS PHILOSOPHY.
"After the tradition of man".
A. Mere human speculation.
B. Christ rebuked tradition of Pharisees.
1. Danger of tradition.
III. THE SUBJECT MATTER OF THIS PHILOSOPHY.
"After the rudiments of the worlds".
A. Dealt with ordinance and externals.
1. These rudiments "beggarly elements" done away in Christ.
IV. THE WORTHLESSNESS.
"Not after Christ."
A. Had not Christ as author.
1. It followed the "tradition of men."
B. It had not Christ for its subject.
1. It replaced Him with ritualistic ordinances and mediating angels.
2. No philosophy is worthy the Name it cannot find place, for Him who is the highest wisdom.
V. THE DANGER OF THIS PHILOSOPHY.
"Beware lest any man should spoil you".
A. Make a spoil of you.
B. It would involve the loss of:
1. Christian liberty.
2. "Stand fast in the liberty."
