"THE COMMITMENT THAT WINS"
Intro: The setting of the text.
I. THE VALUE OF COMMITMENT.
A. Men of commitment are men of accomplishment.
1. The men who will get the job done.
2. The men that will win.
B. Everything worthwhile takes effort.
1. Without commitments, effort lacking.
II. THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMITMENT.
A. We shall each of us face the fiery furnace.
1. God never promised us immunity from trials, quite the opposite, "and they that live..."
2. To pray "not my will, Thy will be done" can sometimes involve a cross.
3. My human nature would seek the easy path, but the easy path usually leads to nowhere.
B. We observe some who have fallen by the wayside.
1. "Ye did start well, what did hinder you?"
2. Seed on the stony ground.
3. What is the problem? Lack of deep commitment.
III. COMMITMENT CAME FROM CONFIDENCE IN GOD.
A. "Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us."
1. Important that we know this.
2. If He wants to, He can, If He doesn't then it is because He doesn't want to.
a. He has a purpose or a reason for the furnace.
3. They knew He could deliver from.
a. "Now unto Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above..."
b. They did not expect deliverance in.
B. "He will deliver us from your hand."
1. One way or the other.
a. Even if we burn in your fire we will be delivered from you.
IV. COMMITMENT CAME FROM DEDICATION OF PURPOSE
"But if not, we will not serve thy gods or worship the golden image.
A. They committed themselves to worship and serve only God.
1. Nothing can deter them from this commitment.
B. Sometimes people decide to try God.
1. Sort of a 10 day free trial period.
2. Not a full complete commitment.
C. How can you stop these kind of men?
V. THE RESULT OF THEIR COMMITMENT.
A. God did not deliver them from the furnace.
1. They were thrown into the furnace, 7 times hotter.
B. God delivered them in the furnace.
C. This is a glorious and exciting story, but it is important to realize that God does not always deliver from, nor does He always deliver in.
1. Many godly saints have been burned at the Stakes.
2. Many have suffered violent deaths for their faith. The important thing is to be so committed to the will of God for your life that it doesn't make any difference. Maybe He wants to deliver me by the fiery furnace.
I know that one way or other, He will deliver me if I trust in Him and commit myself totally.
