"AS THE DAYS OF NOAH WERE"
Intro: Jesus walking through the Temple precincts with the disciples. Not one stone was left standing. "What will be the sign of these things and thy coming..."
I. POPULATION EXPLOSION "MEN BEGAN TO MULTIPLY UPON THE FACE OF THE EARTH."
A. You may figure by a mathematic formula the population in a given number of years if you know the average family size and average generation.
1. Assume the average family with 4 grandparents lived to see their grandchildren.
a. 5 generations 96 people.
b. 10 generations 3,070 people.
c. 20 generations 3,150,000 people.
d. 30 generations 3,220,000,000 people.
2. From Adam to Noah - 1,656 years. Men lived to great ages - Average 900 years. Each family had 6 children per generation, 100 years average life span, 500 years.
a. Population at flood -- 235,000,000.
3. If the average family was eight, the average generation - 93.
a. At Adam's death -- 2,800,000.
b. At flood -- 137,000,000.
II. "GOD SAW THE WICKEDNESS OF MAN WAS GREAT IN THE EARTH, AND THAT EVERY IMAGINATION OF THE THOUGHTS OF HIS HEART WAS ONLY EVIL CONTINUALLY."
A. Look at our world today outside of Christ.
1. Listen to their conversations.
2. "That righteous man Lot was vexed by their manner of living."
a. The type of stories being written.
b. The type of pictures being shown.
c. The type of magazines being sold.
d. The type of jokes being told.
B. The imagination of the thoughts of his heart were only evil continually.
III. THE EARTH ALSO WAS CORRUPT BEFORE GOD, AND THE EARTH WAS FILLED WITH VIOLENCE.
A. A look at your newspaper or news magazines will reveal the same thing today.
1. Alarming rate of increase in crimes of violence.
a. The majority being committed by teenagers.
2. Describe for me the political scene today. Corrupt.
3. Describe the world scene - "Filled with violence."
IV. BLIND AND SCOFFING AT THE IMPENDING JUDGMENT.
A. They ignored the warnings of Noah.
1. They went right on with business as usual.
a. As Jesus described it, eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage until the day that Noah entered into the Ark. And knew not till the floods came and took them all away.
B. Try to warn people today of God's impending judgment.
1. They laugh and scoff. As the days of Noah were, so surely are they today. Jesus is coming soon.
