TIME TO SEEK THE LORD
Intro: This is a part of God's response to those Jews who in the last days will say, "Come let us return to the Lord."
I. THE REASON FOR THEIR CALAMITY vs. 13.
A. Ploughed wickedness, reaped iniquity.
1. Earlier accused of sowing to the wind.
2. Whatsoever man soweth.
a. This is a basic law in nature.
b. It applies to our own lives as well as in Botony.
c. If I sow to my flesh etc...
3. Israel had ploughed wickedness.
a. They had turned from the living God to idols.
b. They became fruitless. vs. 1.
1. God's purpose & intent that we bear fruit.
4. They were now reaping the natural inevitable results of their ploughing.
II. GOD'S WORD TO A DESPERATE PEOPLE FILLED WITH INIQUITY.
A. Sow to yourselves in righteousness.
1. The same natural laws can work to your benefit.
2. If you sow to the Spirit.
3. Reap mercy.
a. God is so merciful to us.
B. Break up your fallow ground.
1. This is a step of faith.
2. Preparing for God to work.
3. Certain dangerous passiveness.
a. "Well if God wants to, He can."
b. Paul to Timothy "study to show thyself..."
c. Preparation is a step of faith.
d. Preparation is not unspiritual.
e. Once you have prepared yourself, have done all you could, then...
III "IT IS TIME TO SEEK THE LORD."
A. The harvest is dependent now upon Him.
1. I have broken the fallow ground & sown righteousness.
2. Now I must depend upon Him for the rain.
B. It is amazing, some of the things a man seeks to find the answers.
1. Seek success.
2. Seek pleasure.
3. Seek Horoscope.
4. Seek Education.
5. All such seeking apart from God eventuates in emptiness.
C. So now that you have sought these other things, don't you think its time you seek the Lord.
D. How long are we to seek Him?
1. "Till He comes."
2. I have seen so many who if God doesn't respond within the first five minutes they're ready to seek something else.
E. The result of seeking the Lord "Till He come & rain righteousness upon us."
1. The glorious rain of God soaking us in joy.
2. Showers of blessing & goodness, until there is a flood of love.
O Let us seek the Lord until He comes & rains righteousness upon us.
