Consider:
I. THE OBJECTS OF HIS LOVE (THE WORLD, FELLOW HUMANITY).
A. Nothing in the world to attract or deserve His love.
1. Not as He made it.
2. Stained and tarnished by sin.
3. Magnitude of love, not attractiveness of world.
B. There was much in world to repel His love.
1. Its fall was deliberate and willful.
2. It was indifferent, even rebellious.
3. Magnitude is measured by opposing forces it conquers.
C. The world deserved punishment.
1. Judgment was hanging over it.
2. Mercy triumphed.
D. He loved the whole world.
II. THE GIFT OF HIS LOVE.
A. Love measured by gifts it gives.
1. His Son.
2. His only begotten Son.
3. He gave His only begotten Son as a sacrifice.
a. He was sent as messenger of peace and light.
b. He was given as a sacrifice.
III. THE PURPOSE OF HIS LOVE.
A. To save the world from the greatest calamity.
1. Should not perish.
2. Destruction was inevitable outside His intervention.
a. The law would take its course.
b. Guilty would pay.
3. God was under no obligation to intercede.
a. He surrounded man and gave to man all qualities necessary for happy life.
4. God was under no necessity to intercede.
a. Should world go to its horrible fate, justice would be served.
b. He did not need us.
c. Earth as speck of dust.
Purpose:
B. To bring to all the ultimate of God.
1. Have everlasting life.
IV. THE CONDITION ON WHICH THEIR BLESSING IS STAINED "BELIEVETH ON HIM."
A. This condition essential.
B. This condition is reasonable.
C. This condition is easy.
1. A higher condition could have been demanded.
D. Same condition for all.
1. "Whosoever."
Conclusion:
1. Story of God's love told by its deeds, "God so loved He gave..."
2. Man's ruin entirely of self as salvation is entirely of God.
3. It is easier for man to be saved than lost.
a. Go against God's love, the suffering of Christ, warnings of Spirit.
