"RIVERS OF LIVING WATER."
Intro: Last day of the feast, eighth day. For seven days, priests in procession from pool of Siloam chanting parts of Great Hallel.
1. God had provided water in wilderness.
2. Promise of latter rain.
3. Eighth day, no procession.
4. Christ stood.
I. "THIRST."
A. Every person acquainted with this thirst.
1. Romans 8:20, "Creature made subject unto emptiness."
2. It is a thirst of man's spirit.
B. Men in search of satisfying this search have erred.
1. Tried to slant it with soulish pursuits.
a. Solomon.
b. Across every worldly endeavor, "He who drinks of this water shall thirst."
2. Being a spiritual thirst, it can only be fulfilled by the Spirit.
II. "COME UNTO ME."
A. Here is an invitation and appeal of the Gospel.
1. There is a satisfying experience.
2. Man can realize ideal fulfillment.
3. That clamant thirst can be satisfied.
B. This is a personal appeal.
1. It involves only two persons.
C. Man can never be satisfied until he has responded to this appeal.
III. "AND DRINK."
A. Here is where so many fail.
1. There conscious has been aroused to need.
a. They may even appear to be seeking Christ.
2. A river flowing through a country of people dying of thirst will avail nothing.
IV. RESULT OF DRINKING.
A. "Out of his belly shall gush torrents of living water."
1. This describes the normal Christian.
2. What is meant by belly?
a. Part of man that constantly craves.
b. Natural man's god, because it receives so much care and attention.
c. That part of man that can never really be satisfied.
B. Not only is he satisfied who comes to Christ, but from that area that constantly craves shall overflow.
V. WHAT WAS JESUS TALKING ABOUT?
A. "But this spake He of the Spirit."
1. What is the end result of the work of the Spirit in our lives?
2. What is the true craving of the world?
