"THE PROOF OF LOVE."
I. LOVE AND OBEDIENCE RELATED. VERSE 15, 21, 23.
A. Many affirm love verbally.
1. "Oh, I love God so much."
2. We sing, "Oh, how I love Jesus."
3. It isn't what you say, but what you do that counts.
4. The words must be matched by our deeds.
B. The real proof of love is obedience to His commandments.
1. My love is shown by my obedience.
II. WHAT IS HIS COMMANDMENT?
A. John 15:12,17 "That ye love one another."
1. I John 4:20, "If a man says, 'I love God' and hates his brother, he is a liar."
2. You may say why that's easy.
a. Notice the degree of love, John 15:12, "As I have loved you."
3. This makes obedience not only difficult but humanly impossible.
a. I need the help of the Holy Spirit.
4. How much does He love us?
a. Overlooks our mistakes.
b. Forgives our sins.
c. Gave Himself for us.
III. FRUIT OF OBEDIENCE.
A. Verse 16.
B. Verse 21.
C. Verse 23.
D. Verse 15:7.
E. Verse 15:11.
