Intro: The need of self examination. Stressed all through word.
I. CAUSES OF SELF DECEPTION.
A. False doctrine of self assurance.
B. Living in activities.
C. Balance our lives, justify ourselves.
D. Not taking scripture as only guide.
II. WAYS IN WHICH WE DECEIVE OURSELVES.
A. Even good things can become dangerous if abused.
1. If our main interest is attending meetings, dangerous.
a. Many kept going by meetings.
2. Undue interest in phenomena.
a. Exhalted feelings, physical healing.
b. See moving of Spirit.
3. Undue interest in organizations, denominations.
a. Man a social being.
b. Hold on to denomination even when minister denies the faith.
4. Interest in social rather than the personal aspects of Christianity.
a. Politicians and all quote scripture.
1. Use word Christian.
2. To be anti-Communist is to be Christian.
5. Those whose primary interest is apologetics.
a. Fighting evolution.
b. "Modernism."
c. "New translations."
d. "Psychology."
e. "Church of Rome."
6. Over interest in prophetic teaching.
a. Lose sense of balance.
7. Lose Interest in statistics.
a. Primary concern on numbers.
8. Playing grace against law.
a. Using grace as excuse for sin.
b. Grace is never an excuse for lower standards.
The main issue: What is your personal relationship to Christ?
Are you obeying the law of Christ increasingly?
