"JESUS IS COMING AGAIN"
I. BEHOLD HE COMETH WITH CLOUDS.
A. This is a prophecy of the second coming of Jesus Christ.
1. It is separate and distinct from the rapture of the church.
2. The rapture is the time when Jesus will be coming for His church.
3. At His second coming, He will be coming with His church.
ZEC 14:5 And the Lord my God shall come, [and] all the saints with Him.
COL 3:4 When Christ, [who is] our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
1TH 3:13 To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
Jude 1:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
B. The clouds thus are probably a reference to those saints who will be coming with Him.
1. Hebrews 12 makes mention of the great cloud of witnesses as it refers to the Old Testament saints.
2. Seeing then that we are encompassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses.
C. It is also true that He will be coming in the clouds.
1. When Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples watched as He disappeared in a cloud, and as they were standing there gazing up two men stood by them in white apparel and said, "Ye men of Galilee, why do you stand here gazing up into heaven, this same Jesus shall come again in like manner as you have seen Him go."
2. When Jesus was on trial the high priest asked Him if He were the messiah,
MAT 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
3. When Jesus was talking to His disciples of the events of the great tribulation He said:
LUK 21:27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
MAT 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
D. He will be coming to judge the earth and then to set up His kingdom.
1. David prophesied of Him saying:
PSA 98:9 Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.
2. In talking of His coming again, Jesus said:
MAT 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
MAT 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth [his] sheep from the goats:
3. Paul when talking to the Athenians on Mars hill said of Jesus:
Act 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by [that] man whom he hath ordained; [whereof] he hath given assurance unto all [men], in that he hath raised him from the dead.
ROM 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
a. To the Corinthians he wrote:
2CO 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things [done] in [his] body, according to that he hath done, whether [it be] good or bad.
E. His coming will be 1290 days after the man of sin stands in the Holy of holies of the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem and stops the daily sacrifices, and declares that he is God and demands to be worshipped as God.
Dan 12:8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what [shall be] the end of these [things]?
Dan 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words [are] closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
Dan 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
Dan 12:11 And from the time [that] the daily [sacrifice] shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, [there shall be] a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
Dan 12:12 Blessed [is] he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
1. Evidently the time of judgment will last 45 days, and if you make it past the 45th day it means that you will be of those who will enter into the kingdom.
II. EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM.
A. The world will have just gone through the blackest hour in its history.
Dan 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
ISA 26:20 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.
ISA 26:21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.
MAT 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
MAT 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
MAT 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
MAT 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
MAR 13:19 For [in] those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
MAR 13:24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
III. "AND EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM, AND THEY ALSO THAT PIERCED HIM."
A. As David is prophesying of the crucifixion of the Messiah, he said,
PSA 22:16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
B. When Jesus was crucified, they drove the spikes through His hands and feet. After His resurrection when He appeared to His disciples Luke tells us,
LUK 24:36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace [be] unto you.
LUK 24:37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
LUK 24:38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
LUK 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
LUK 24:40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them [his] hands and [his] feet.
C. Zechariah in prophesying the second coming of the Messiah declared,
ZEC 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for [his] only [son], and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for [his] firstborn.
IV. "AND ALL OF THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH SHALL WAIL BECAUSE OF HIM."
A. As we have just read in the prophecy of Zechariah, "And they shall mourn for Him, as one mourneth for His only Son, and shall be in bitterness for Him as one that is in bitterness for His firstborn."
B. Jesus speaking of His coming again said,
MAT 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
C. It is interesting how that there is such an agreement in the scriptures concerning the events of the coming again of Jesus Christ, what makes it all the more amazing, the prophecies were some of them made over a thousand years apart.
D. What does it all mean? God's word will stand. Jesus said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words will not pass away."
