"HE SHALL REIGN."
I. THE NEED FOR HIS REIGN.
A. Man seems to be incapable of governing himself.
1. It seems that every form of government becomes corrupted.
a. Many men motivated into politics by idealism, soon corrupted once they gain position of power.
1. No man should rule who is not ruled.
b. The pages of our history books filled with the indictments against the ruling classes of the past.
2. We see the problems plaguing our society today.
a. Total moral breakdown.
b. The judicial breakdown.
c. Rising crime the inevitable result.
B. Man is destroying the earth. vs. 18.
1. Fifty years ago the thought was incredible.
a. There was so much air, water, forests, oil, and gas could never deplete them.
b. Like Guilder, we slept too long.
c. Any attempts at truly restrictive legislation destroyed by the monied groups reaping the profits.
d. The earth is on a collision course with disaster and nothing man can do can divert it.
II. HIS RIGHT TO REIGN.
A. He purchased the world with His own blood.
1. The earth originally belonged to God.
2. He gave it to man.
3. Man through sins sold out to Satan.
4. Jesus through death bought it back.
B. He has the power and authority to reign, vs. 17
1. Then why doesn't He?
a. There are yet a few that He knows are going to respond to His love and He's waiting.
1. "Have patience brethren."
2. "God is not slave..."
b. Man is not yet totally convinced of his failure.
1. Still looking for the magic formula for peace and brotherhood apart from Jesus Christ.
2. Matt. 23:39, "Ye shall not see Me till ye shall say, blessed is He..."
III. THE EFFECT OF HIS REIGN.
A. "Peace on earth."
1. A true disarmament, "beat their swords."
2. Men will live without fear.
B. "Righteousness shall cover the earth."
1. The strong shall not oppress the weak.
2. True judgment shall issue forth.
C. No physical infirmities.
1. Blindness, deafness, weakness, lameness past.
2. No tears or sorrows or that which causes hurt.
D. One world and one world ruler.
E. So many of these benefits available right now to those who submit to the reign of Christ.
1. If submitting to Christ offends you, don't worry, you won't be around when He reigns.
IV. THE EXTENT OF HIS REIGN.
A. Over the universe.
B. And He shall reign forever and ever.
1. "And of the increase of His government and peace, there shall be no end."
2. "Upon the throne of David to order it and establish it...even forever."
3. Judgment and justice. Isa. 9:7.
