"MY REDEEMER"
Intro: The book of Ruth affords us a good opportunity to view the law of redemption in operation.
I. THE LAWS OF REDEMPTION IN LEV. & EXODUS.
A. Basically, when you were forced to sell yourself or your property, you retained the rights to buy it back.
1. On certain properties there were time limits after which property forfeited forever.
2. Others automatically reverted back in year of jubilee.
B. Another provision allowed for a "goel" or kinsman redeemer when you were unable to redeem yourself.
II. THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE KINSMAN REDEEMER.
A. He had to be willing.
B. He had to be next of kin.
C. He had to be able.
D. He must assume all the obligations of the land.
E. Now Naomi whose husband had died was selling a parcel of land, and because her two sons had also died childless in order that the family name be carried on whoever bought the land would have an obligation to Ruth.
1. Boaz loved Ruth and desired to redeem the land, he had plenty of land.
2. One hitch, another brother who was of closer kin had first option.
3. He wanted land but did not want to fulfill obligation to Ruth.
III. MAN SOLD HIMSELF AND HIS WORLD TO SATAN.
A. Man was spiritually bankrupt and unable to redeem himself.
B. God loved man and wanted to redeem him.
C. God must fulfill all the requirements of the kinsman redeemer.
1. He must first be willing to save.
a. The kingdom of heaven like a man going...
2. He must be next of kin.
a. This is the reason for incarnation. "God coming in body of flesh."
1. "In the beginning was the Word...and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us." "He was in the world, and the world was made by Him and the world knew Him not."
2. The fish knew Him.
3. The winds and the waves knew Him.
4. The unbroken colt knew Him.
5. The stones knew Him.
3. "He was in the form of God..."
4. Heb. 2:17, 18.
5. He must pay the price.
a. In as much as the penalty for sin is death, He must die for our sins.
b. He must first be sinless Himself otherwise He is just dying for His own guilt.
c. In whom we have redemption through His blood.
6. He must take on the obligations of the land.
a. So Jesus redeemed the world so He could take you as His bride.
b. He desires to fulfill in you all of the lost potentials due to sin.
c. To restore you back to the first principles all the things lost through the fall.
