Nothing. The devil has been blamed for many of the problems that we face. However Scripture teaches that it is ultimately our responsibility for the sins we commit.

Not Opposite Of God

The devil is not the opposite of God. He is finite, God is infinite. He was created, God is the Creator. God knows all things, the devil only has limited knowledge. Therefore, as a created being he cannot make the believer do anything.

He Is Powerful

Though not the opposite of God, the devil is still a powerful creature. The Bible tells us that even the archangel Michael would not withstand him one on one.

But when the archangel Michael contended with the devil and disputed about the body of Moses, he did not dare to bring a condemnation of slander against him, but said, The Lord rebuke you! (Jude 9).

Greater Is He

The Bible makes it clear that the devil has no control over God's children:

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world (1 John 4:4).

Therefore when we chose to sin it is ultimately our responsibility, we cannot blame it on the devil.

Summary

The devil would like us to believe that he is more powerful than he really is. From Scripture we find that he is but a created being, one is not the opposite of God. His time is limited. Yet he is a power to be reckoned with. Therefore we have to call upon the power of the Lord to withstand his tactics.
