There are two basic reasons why believers have need of a resurrected body.
1. Body Of Death
The present body that we have is called a body of death in Scripture. Paul wrote.
Although the body was originally made perfect, sin has marred its perfection. The result is death and dying. This sinful body cannot last forever.
2. Presence Of God
There is another reason why believers need a new body. We cannot be in God's presence in these sinful bodies. We need to be changed.
Dwells In Unapproachable Light
God lives in a state that is unapproachable for humans.
To be allowed in God's presence, our sinful bodies must be changed.
Could Not Stand
When God's glory filled the temple, the priests could not stand in His presence.
Cannot Inherit
These sinful bodies of flesh and blood cannot inherit God's kingdom. The Bible says that only the pure can see God.
Paul wrote.
The Apostle John concluded.
Summary
The bodies that we now have will not last forever. Sin has marred their original perfection. Hence a change is in order. Furthermore to stand in the presence of God, our sinful bodies must be changed. Nothing sinful can remain in God's presence. Thus there is a further need for a new body for all believers.
1. Body Of Death
The present body that we have is called a body of death in Scripture. Paul wrote.
Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? (Romans 7:24).
It is He alone who has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see; to Him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen (1 Timothy 6:16).
To be allowed in God's presence, our sinful bodies must be changed.
Could Not Stand
When God's glory filled the temple, the priests could not stand in His presence.
So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God (2 Chronicles 5:14).
Cannot Inherit
These sinful bodies of flesh and blood cannot inherit God's kingdom. The Bible says that only the pure can see God.
Jesus said.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God (Matthew 5:8).
Paul wrote.
What I am saying, brothers and sisters, is this: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable (1 Corinthians 15:50).
The Apostle John concluded.
Beloved, we are God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when He is revealed, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. And all who have this hope in Him purify themselves, just as He Himself is pure (1 John 3:2,3).
