When one is baptized with the Holy Spirit, does they receive special power in their life? Is it something that gives them added strength to live the victorious Christian life?

As noted previously, the baptizing work of the Holy Spirit places the believer into the body of Christ. This enables Him to receive power but does not guarantee Him any special strength. The believers in the Galatian and Corinthian churches were all baptized by the Holy Spirit, but their lives were far from being spiritually mature.

Had Been Baptized

The Apostle Paul assured the Galatians that they had been baptized in the Holy Spirit.

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ (Galatians 3:27).

Yet, these same Galatians were turning away from Christ:

I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel (Galatians 1:6).

 
The Corinthian believers as well had all been baptized with the Holy Spirit but the Corinthians were guilty of all kinds of evils. The Apostle Paul told them:

And I, brethren, could not speak to you as spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ . . . For you are still carnal. For where there are . . . divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? (1 Corinthians 3:1,3)

 
Therefore, we can say that the act of baptism with the Holy Spirit provides the basis for power by placing the believer into the body of Christ but does not guarantee any special power or ability to live the Christian life. That comes through obedience to God and being continually filled with the Holy Spirit.
