When someone gives a prophecy invoking the name of the Lord are we to place it on the same level as Scripture? Though some modern-day prophecies may prove to be supernaturally given and helpful to those who receive them, they are not to be placed on the same level as the Bible.

Difference In Scope

The difference between modern-day prophetic utterances and Scripture is a matter of scope. The words set down in the Bible have a universal and eternal application. Those who have a genuine message from the Lord will have its application in a limited and often localized application. Such messages relate to individuals or a small number of people and are not to be placed on the same level as Scripture. This is because the Scriptures are complete. The faith has been once-and-for-all revealed to us by God and nothing further needs to be added.
