Henry Wellington Greatorex

1813-1858

Born: December 24, 1813, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.

Died: September 10, 1858, Charleston, South Carolina.

Greatorex got his early musical training form his father, organist at Westminster Abbey. Henry emigrated to America in 1839. He played the organ at Center Church and St. John’s Church in Hartford, Connecticut; St. Paul’s Church and Calvary Church, New York City; and Charleston, South Carolina. His works include:

• Collection of Psalm and Hymn Tunes, Chants, Anthems and Sentences for the Use of the Protestant Episcopal Church in America, 1851
