Born: May 7, 1811, Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England.

Died: July 6, 1890, Westminster, England.

Helmore graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford (B.A. 1840, M.A. 1845). He was ordained in the Anglican church and became vice-principal and precentor at St. Mark’s College, Chelsea, where he served 35 years. In 1846 he was appointed master of the choristers in the Chapel Royal. His works include:

  • Carols for Christmas-Tide, 1853 (collaboration with John Mason Neale)
  • Hymnal Noted, Part II, 1856
  • Translation of Fetis’ Treatise on Choir and Chorus Singing, 1885
