Born: Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, 1614.

More was educated at Eton and Christ’s College, Cambridge, where he graduated in 1635, and became a Fellow of the College in 1639. He declined various offers of high position, and spent his time mainly studying philosophy, and as a private tutor. His poems, collected and edited by Dr. Grosart, were included in the Chertsey Worthies Library.

More’s works include:

  • Psychozoia, or the First Part of the Song of the Soul, containing a Christiano-Platonic display of Life, 1640.
  • Philosophical Poems, 1647 (republication, with additions, of Psychozoia)
  • Divine Dialogues with Divine Hymns, 1668
  • Memoirs, published posthumously in 1730
