John Troutbeck

1833-1889

Born: November 12, 1833, Blencowe, Cumberland, England.

Died: October 11, 1889, London, England.

Educated at Oxford University, Troutbeck became precentor of  Manchester Cathedral, and was a chaplain and priest in ordinary to Queen Victoria. He translated a  number of German, French, and Italian opera and oratorio texts, including ones from Bach.
