Johan Olaf Wallin (1779-1839)

Wallin is probably the best known of Swedish hymnists. Son of an army sergeant, he attended the University of Uppsala and was ordained as a minister. He eventually rose to become the Archbishop of Uppsala and primate of Sweden. He served as archbishop 1837-1839, but had not moved to his residence in Uppsala before he died.

Wallin’s hymnal of 1819 was used well into the 20th Century.

Hymns:

  1. All Hail to Thee, O Blessed Morn
  2. Jerusalem, Lift Up Thy Voice
  3. O Bride of Christ, Rejoice!
  4. To Realms of Glory
