| Wisdom has built her house; | |
| She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine; | |
| She has sent out her young women to call | |
| “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” | |
| “Come, eat of my bread | |
| “Leave your simple ways,[fn1] and live, | |
| Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse, | |
| Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; | |
| Give instruction[fn2] to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; | |
| The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, | |
| For by me your days will be multiplied, | |
| If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; | |
| The woman Folly is loud; | |
| She sits at the door of her house; | |
| calling to those who pass by, | |
| “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” | |
| “Stolen water is sweet, | |
| But he does not know that the dead[fn4] are there, | |
