| Aleph [fn1]Blessed are those whose way is blameless, | |
| Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, | |
| who also do no wrong, | |
| You have commanded your precepts | |
| Oh that my ways may be steadfast | |
| Then I shall not be put to shame, | |
| I will praise you with an upright heart, | |
| I will keep your statutes; | |
| Beth How can a young man keep his way pure? | |
| With my whole heart I seek you; | |
| I have stored up your word in my heart, | |
| Blessed are you, O Lord; | |
| With my lips I declare | |
| In the way of your testimonies I delight | |
| I will meditate on your precepts | |
| I will delight in your statutes; | |
| Gimel Deal bountifully with your servant, | |
| Open my eyes, that I may behold | |
| I am a sojourner on the earth; | |
| My soul is consumed with longing | |
| You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones, | |
| Take away from me scorn and contempt, | |
| Even though princes sit plotting against me, | |
| Your testimonies are my delight; | |
| Daleth My soul clings to the dust; | |
| When I told of my ways, you answered me; | |
| Make me understand the way of your precepts, | |
| My soul melts away for sorrow; | |
| Put false ways far from me | |
| I have chosen the way of faithfulness; | |
| I cling to your testimonies, O Lord; | |
| I will run in the way of your commandments | |
| He Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes; | |
| Give me understanding, that I may keep your law | |
| Lead me in the path of your commandments, | |
| Incline my heart to your testimonies, | |
| Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; | |
| Confirm to your servant your promise, | |
| Turn away the reproach that I dread, | |
| Behold, I long for your precepts; | |
| Waw Let your steadfast love come to me, O Lord, | |
| then shall I have an answer for him who taunts me, | |
| And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, | |
| I will keep your law continually, | |
| and I shall walk in a wide place, | |
| I will also speak of your testimonies before kings | |
| for I find my delight in your commandments, | |
| I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love, | |
| Zayin Remember your word to your servant, | |
| This is my comfort in my affliction, | |
| The insolent utterly deride me, | |
| When I think of your rules from of old, | |
| Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked, | |
| Your statutes have been my songs | |
| I remember your name in the night, O Lord, | |
| This blessing has fallen to me, | |
| Heth The Lord is my portion; | |
| I entreat your favor with all my heart; | |
| When I think on my ways, | |
| I hasten and do not delay | |
| Though the cords of the wicked ensnare me, | |
| At midnight I rise to praise you, | |
| I am a companion of all who fear you, | |
| The earth, O Lord, is full of your steadfast love; | |
| Teth You have dealt well with your servant, | |
| Teach me good judgment and knowledge, | |
| Before I was afflicted I went astray, | |
| You are good and do good; | |
| The insolent smear me with lies, | |
| their heart is unfeeling like fat, | |
| It is good for me that I was afflicted, | |
| The law of your mouth is better to me | |
| Yodh Your hands have made and fashioned me; | |
| Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice, | |
| I know, O Lord, that your rules are righteous, | |
| Let your steadfast love comfort me | |
| Let your mercy come to me, that I may live; | |
| Let the insolent be put to shame, | |
| Let those who fear you turn to me, | |
| May my heart be blameless in your statutes, | |
| Kaph My soul longs for your salvation; | |
| My eyes long for your promise; | |
| For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke, | |
| How long must your servant endure?[fn4] | |
| The insolent have dug pitfalls for me; | |
| All your commandments are sure; | |
| They have almost made an end of me on earth, | |
| In your steadfast love give me life, | |
| Lamedh Forever, O Lord, your word | |
| Your faithfulness endures to all generations; | |
| By your appointment they stand this day, | |
| If your law had not been my delight, | |
| I will never forget your precepts, | |
| I am yours; save me, | |
| The wicked lie in wait to destroy me, | |
| I have seen a limit to all perfection, | |
| Mem Oh how I love your law! | |
| Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, | |
| I have more understanding than all my teachers, | |
| I understand more than the aged,[fn5] | |
| I hold back my feet from every evil way, | |
| I do not turn aside from your rules, | |
| How sweet are your words to my taste, | |
| Through your precepts I get understanding; | |
| Nun Your word is a lamp to my feet | |
| I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, | |
| I am severely afflicted; | |
| Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O Lord, | |
| I hold my life in my hand continually, | |
| The wicked have laid a snare for me, | |
| Your testimonies are my heritage forever, | |
| I incline my heart to perform your statutes | |
| Samekh I hate the double-minded, | |
| You are my hiding place and my shield; | |
| Depart from me, you evildoers, | |
| Uphold me according to your promise, that I may live, | |
| Hold me up, that I may be safe | |
| You spurn all who go astray from your statutes, | |
| All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross, | |
| My flesh trembles for fear of you, | |
| Ayin I have done what is just and right; | |
| Give your servant a pledge of good; | |
| My eyes long for your salvation | |
| Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love, | |
| I am your servant; give me understanding, | |
| It is time for the Lord to act, | |
| Therefore I love your commandments | |
| Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right; | |
| Pe Your testimonies are wonderful; | |
| The unfolding of your words gives light; | |
| I open my mouth and pant, | |
| Turn to me and be gracious to me, | |
| Keep steady my steps according to your promise, | |
| Redeem me from man's oppression, | |
| Make your face shine upon your servant, | |
| My eyes shed streams of tears, | |
| Tsadhe Righteous are you, O Lord, | |
| You have appointed your testimonies in righteousness | |
| My zeal consumes me, | |
| Your promise is well tried, | |
| I am small and despised, | |
| Your righteousness is righteous forever, | |
| Trouble and anguish have found me out, | |
| Your testimonies are righteous forever; | |
| Qoph With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord! | |
| I call to you; save me, | |
| I rise before dawn and cry for help; | |
| My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, | |
| Hear my voice according to your steadfast love; | |
| They draw near who persecute me with evil purpose; | |
| But you are near, O Lord, | |
| Long have I known from your testimonies | |
| Resh Look on my affliction and deliver me, | |
| Plead my cause and redeem me; | |
| Salvation is far from the wicked, | |
| Great is your mercy, O Lord; | |
| Many are my persecutors and my adversaries, | |
| I look at the faithless with disgust, | |
| Consider how I love your precepts! | |
| The sum of your word is truth, | |
| Sin and Shin Princes persecute me without cause, | |
| I rejoice at your word | |
| I hate and abhor falsehood, | |
| Seven times a day I praise you | |
| Great peace have those who love your law; | |
| I hope for your salvation, O Lord, | |
| My soul keeps your testimonies; | |
| I keep your precepts and testimonies, | |
| Taw Let my cry come before you, O Lord; | |
| Let my plea come before you; | |
| My lips will pour forth praise, | |
| My tongue will sing of your word, | |
| Let your hand be ready to help me, | |
| I long for your salvation, O Lord, | |
| Let my soul live and praise you, | |
| I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant, | |
