Isa 63:3 — I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people [there was] none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.

trodden   Isa 25:10; Lam 1:15; Mal 4:3; Rev 14:19,20; Rev 19:13-15
and of the people   The very remarkable passage contained in the first six verses of this chapter seems in a manner detached from the rest, and to stand by itself; containing a prophetical representation of the victories of the Messiah over the enemies of his church, here designated by the names of Edom and Bozrah. Though, as Bp. Lowth observes, this prophecy must have its accomplishment, there is no necessity for supposing that it has been already accomplished. There are prophecies which intimate a great slaughter of the enemies of God and his people, which remain to be fulfilled: those in Eze 38; and Rev 20; are called Gog and Magog. This prophecy of Isaiah may possibly refer to the same, or the like event.
