The Holy Spirit living in us produces the life that pleases and honors God

1. Review Rom 8:1-11
   1. No condemnation through Christ
   2. The sinful nature: Death
   3. The Spirit in us: Life and peace
2. Consideration – Rom 8:12-14
   1. The exhortation – Rom 8:12
      1. “Since the Holy Spirit lives in you, do not live as if He does not”
   2. The explanation
      1. No obligation to our sinful nature
         1. The cause of our troubles
         2. We owe it – Nothing
         3. No claim – Free
         4. No slavery
         5. No indebtedness
      2. Our obligation is to the Lord
         1. To the Holy Spirit
         2. This is how we now live
         3. Set free to live
   3. The practical outworking
      1. It is not perfectionism
         1. Early 1900’s – holiness
         2. Pentecostal
         3. A sinless perfection thru an experience
         4. A second blessing beyond justification
         5. Must seek
         6. Must qualify
         7. Devastation – not biblical
            1. Must adjust God and His Law
            2. Must lie to self and others
            3. Must deny grace
      2. It is not crisis victory
         1. Not instant victory that lasts forever
         2. The deeper life higher etc.
         3. Not an experience of total surrender
         4. Not something new
      3. It is a growth process
         1. It is gradual
         2. It is maturing
         3. Not instant arrival
      4. It is a life to life
         1. The truth of Rom 8:1-13
         2. Now live it out
         3. Put it into practice and keep on and on
         4. Do not wait for or seek an experience
         5. Respond now!
   4. The precise approach
      1. The realization and acknowledgement of biblical authority
         1. The Holy Spirit lives in you and me
         2. God lives in
         3. The indwelling – 1Co 6:19-20; 1Co 3:16
         4. A fact!
         5. For all believers – even Corinthians
      2. The actualization
         1. Since I am a Christian I live like it
         2. Since the Holy Spirit lives in me – I live accordingly
         3. Not as though it is not true
