"SHORT BED WITH NARROW BLANKETS"
SATIRE - SARCASM
I. THE PEOPLE ADDRESSED.
A. Created as a people by God.
B. Thoroughly acquainted with law from birth.
C. Owed all national prosperity to God.
D. Impulses and underlying mode ungodliness, "Who hath believed our report?"
E. Their contempt for the prophet.
1. "Whom will he teach knowledge?" Vs. 9.
2. For it is precept upon precept vs. l0. This kind of preaching is out of date. Who is he trying to teach? Let him teach children, this method precept etc.
3. He warned of divine judgment.
a. We are not afraid "we have made a covenant with death with hell."
4. Vs. 16. "Behold I lay in Zion for a foundation" "He that believeth shall not make haste."
II. CHRIST THE ONLY TRUE PLACE OF REST.
A. In the deeps of consciousness we know this life is not all - if do not believe...
B. You cannot stop the wheels of time sweeping us to the end.
C. Do you have fear of the end?
III. DIFFERENT BEDS MEN REST UPON.
A. I have not fear, I have always been moral.
B. I am a Christian - rites and sacraments of church.
External religious observance.
C. Ten years ago I had great experience.
D. God is God of love.
Bed in false doctrine.
E. I have no time.
TWO THINGS:
1. The bed is too short.
2. The blankets are too narrow.
A. What is morality? Standard.
Law of God 1st - No other Gods before me.
B. Religious Observances - baptized when infant, confirmed at certain age.
1. Spiritual life never generated by material action.
2. Promise of confirmation - renounce world - flesh - devil.
C. Past experience must be translated to present experience.
D. God too good to punish - God too good to let your sins go unpunished.
1. If God allowed sinful man to enter heaven.
E. Plenty of time.
"Gentlemen the supreme thing is that we be ready to die."
That is true and I purpose to be ready.
God's time is perpetual - now is the time.
"He that believeth shall not make haste."
