"DWELLERS IN FIRE"
Intro: Chap. records history of God's deliverance from Assyria.
I. THE PRESENCE OF GOD AS FIRE.
A. Burden of Isa. message.
1. Chap. 6 - conl. of fire.
2. Chap, 66 - destroy earth with fire.
3. "You forget God, but you do not escape God."
B. Total scriptural revelation.
1. Garden of Eden "sword of fire."
2. N.T. "God is a consuming fire."
3. Rev. Christ - "His eyes were as a flame of fire.
4. Holy Spirit.
C. What are we to learn?
1. Fire is evolution of light and heat by combustion.
a. Three definitions of God.
1. God is light.
2. God is love.
3. God is a consuming fire.
Whether when a man is wrapped about with God, he is in heaven or hell, depends upon what the man is himself. No man escapes God in Hell.
2. Where is fire?
a. It is everywhere.
b. Eremacausis (slow burning fire).
1. Metal covered with rust.
2. Autumn - devouring the effects.
3. Text brings great comfort Kruschev - As Assyria has melted so shall you.
4. This fire is penetrating and resistless.
a. Either devouring or transmitting into permanence.
b. The effect of fire is according to the mankind.
D. These deductions.
1. Because God is light and love - He is fire.
2. He is everywhere.
3. All men are now in this fire.
a. God is destroying you or making you.
b. You are being destroyed or that which would destroy you is being destroyed according to Your relationship with God.
II. WHO CAN DWELL IN THE FIRE?
A. Same Chap. dwell.
Vs. 16 "He shall dwell on high."
Vs. 24 "The people that dwell therein."
24 - Sitting down in perfect rest.
16 - Being at home.
Word in text - sojourn as a quest, to fly away - to conflict.
See that fire - who can visit - flee - fight. Who can dwell in fire and not be burned.
1. Sometimes we look at this world's condition. Assyria has apparently triumphed.
III. CAN I DWELL IN THE FIRE?
A. Am I right with God?
