"CHURCH OF EPHESUS."
I. UNTO ANGEL OF THE CHURCH.
A. Held in right hand of Christ.
B. Held directly responsible for spiritual welfare of church. Ministry not a lordship, but a service. Business of the minister to hear for the church, which has been committed to his care. He is to receive the word from the mouth of the Lord and to deliver it faithfully to His church and to see that it is accepted and observed.
II. "I KNOW THY WORKS."
A. Solemn words repeated to church.
1. Lord is very conscious of our works or lack of them.
B. Ephesus commended.
1. Labor.
2. Patience.
3. Intolerance of evil.
4. Discernment.
5. Labor and patience again emphasized.
III. "THOU HAST LEFT THY FIRST LOVE."
A. Possible to still have the works of love, but lost the love that prompted the works in the beginning. Machinery still in action but love that set it in motion declined.
B. Left not lost.
C. New bride, "Not working any more."
IV. ADVICE.
A. Remember.
1. Follow.
B. Repent.
C. Repeat.
1. Do the first works.
a. The love.
V. WARNING!
A. Remove candlestick out of His place.
VI. PROMISED BLESSING.
A. Tree of Life.
