1 Strong's Number: g3726 Greek: horkizo

Adjure:

"to cause to swear, to lay under the obligation of an oath" (horkos, Mar 5:7; Act 19:13), is connected with the Heb. word for a thigh, cp. Gen 24:2, 9; 47:29. Some mss. have this word in 1Th 5:27. The most authentic have No. 3 (below).

2 Strong's Number: g1844 Greek: exorkizo

Adjure:

an intensive form of No. 1, signifies "to appeal by an oath, to adjure," Mat 26:63. In the Sept., Gen 24:3; Jdg 17:2; 1Ki 22:16.

3 Strong's Number: g3726 Greek: enorkizo

Adjure:

to put under (or bind by) an oath," is translated "adjure" in the RV of 1Th 5:27 (AV, "charge"). In the Sept., Neh 13:25.

Note: The synonymous verb omnumi signifies "to make an oath, to declare or promise with an oath." See, e.g., Mar 6:23, in contrast to Mar 5:7 (horkizo).
