Dug’s Story

We are continually amazed at the feedback we get from our users around the globe! Surrounded by the icy waters of the North Pacific Ocean and majestic snow-capped mountains, there rests an island in a rainforest. On this island is the city of Sitka, Alaska. This region has more boats than cars. As one would imagine, its economy depends primarily on the fishing industry. Why focus on this tiny fishing community? Because Pastor Dug Jensen, of Calvary Chapel Sitka, told us not only has his church been using Blue Letter Bible for the last 6 years, but “the entire town of Sitka has been touched” by our ministry resource!

Before accepting the pastorate at his church, Dug trained the Coast Guard in Alaska for 19 years as a survival instructor. He has been featured as a survival expert by the History Channel and has been consulted by the Discovery Channel about their survival programs. He told us being a survival instructor “is all about being prepared.” Then he made an insightful comparison: Blue Letter Bible is all about “equipping or preparing the saints” with the Word of God. He finds BLB “essential in his own preparation” for teaching and feeding his flock. And because it is so “easy to navigate,” he has given his entire church instructions on how to use our BLB study tools.
