"REDEMPTION."
Intro: Redemption a theological term needs defining. "To purchase a slave from the slave mart." To buy back again.
I. AS CHRISTIANS WE HAVE BEEN REDEEMED.
A. We were slaves to sin:
1. We lived empty lives, "vain conversation."
a. We tried so many things to fill that emptiness.
1. Physical things.
2. Emotional things.
2. We could not redeem ourselves.
a. There are so many "do it yourself" religions.
1. Buy your way to happiness.
2. Meditate your way to happiness.
3. Chant your way to happiness.
4. Think your way to happiness.
B. Silver and gold could not redeem us.
1. So many today are trying to buy happiness.
a. Happiness is a weekend in Las Vegas.
b. Happiness is a trip to the Bahamas.
c. Happiness is driving a Rolls Royce.
2. Their lives still empty and void of purpose.
C. The price of our redemption, "The precious blood of Christ."
1. No greater price was ever paid for anything or anybody.
a. Never think salvation is free, it cost plenty.
b. Someone else paid the price then invites me to freely take it.
c. It shows the tremendous value God places on you.
II. REDEMPTION TO BUY BACK AGAIN.
A. Jewish law of redemption. Whenever you sold or forfeited property you had the right to buy it back in a stipulated time.
