"HOW LONG TILL THE END?"
Intro: The Jewish people have endured great suffering and persecution. Many times they were conquered and subjugated by their ancient enemies. They were finally dispersed by the Assyrians and Babylonians, but a remnant returned and rebuilt from the ashes. Finally, Rome conquered and crushed the nation in 68-70. Scattered throughout the world they have been persecuted and discriminated. Spanish Inquisition, German Holocaust. Today in Russia and especially Ethiopia.
I. DANIEL PREDICTS A TIME OF TROUBLE GREATER THAN ANYTHING IN THEIR HISTORY.
A. Jesus confirms this prophecy, Matt. 24:21.
B. The book of Revelation gives great details 6-18.
C. When you are suffering, time seems to stand still.
1. One dominant question, "How long will this last.
a. If I can see a termination point, it helps.
2. Daniel heard someone ask the question, "How long to the end of these matters?"
a. The answer came back, "for a time, times, and a half."
3. Daniel did not understand, so he repeated the question.
a. "From the time the daily sacrifice is taken away and abomination of desolation set up. One thousand two hundred and ninety days."
II. WHAT DOES ALL OF THIS MEAN?
A. There is to rise out of Western Europe a ten nation federation.
1. Out of this federation will come an awesome, powerful leader.
2. He will come on a platform of peace, but he will be endowed with the powers of hell.
3. He will make a treaty with Israel and they will rebuild the temple and reinstitute the sacrifice.
4. Three and a half years after the treaty is signed he will come to Jerusalem and enter into the holy place of the temple declaring that he is God, and demand to be worshipped.
a. Interesting how desperately Satan desires to be worshipped.
b. He promised Jesus the kingdoms of this world if He would only worship him.
5. This event will be the trigger to mark the count down to the end.
a. It will produce the great tribulation.
b. God's judgment will fall upon men who refused to worship Him but are now worshipping this satanic pseudo-messiah.
c. For 1290 days, the earth will be purged by cataclysm events.
6. Then Jesus will return to the earth with His church to establish God's Kingdom on the earth.
7. Matt. 25:31, Jesus will then gather the nations for judgment.
a. At this judgment, it will be determined who of those who survived the great tribulation will be allowed into the Kingdom age.
b. It would appear this will take 4-5 days.
So blessed is he who comes to the 1335th day. He's in the Kingdom!
