"FELLOWSHIP OF HIS SUFFERING"
I. GOD CREATED MAN FOR FELLOWSHIP.
A. I John 1, "That which we have seen and heard..."
B. Paul speaks of his desire to know the fellowship of His suffering.
1. Suffering seems to create the closest bond of fellowship.
2. "We never cried together."
II. THIS WAS THE SEVENTH APPEARANCE OF GOD TO ABRAHAM AS GOD BROUGHT HIM INTO AN EVER DEEPENING FELLOWSHIP WITH HIMSELF.
A. Ur of Chaldees. Fellowship with discontentment of God with present world.
1. Fellowship with God always begins by our coming out of the world.
a. "Love not the world..."
b. "Come ye apart and be ye separate..."
B. Next in Shechem - Abraham built the altar and worshipped God and promised him the land. Fellowship of method of God. God can only be approached by sinful man through sacrifice.
C. Next at Bethel - Sad occasion parting of Lot who had chosen the better territory. Look as far as you can in every direction. Fellowship with patience of God.
D. After defeat of five kings and paying tithes to Melchizedek. He had refused the reward offered by king of Sodom. "I am thy shield and exceeding great reward."
1. Promised him a son.
2. Promised him the land.
3. Abraham took heifer, ram, goat, dove, pigeon.
4. Deep sleep fear of darkness.
5. His seed would go through hard times for 400 years.
6. Fellowship of hope.
E. When 99 years old, God revealed Himself as El Shaddai, "God all sufficient."
1. Changed his name to Abraham.
2. Promised he would be Father of many nations.
3. Gave to him rite of circumcision.
4. Fellowship of holiness.
F. Plain of Mamre - Abraham the intercessor shall not the Lord of the earth be just; fellowship of His justice.
G. Call to offer his son, "Take now thy son, thine only son."
1. Calls to mind John 3:16.
2. God does not recognize Ishmael.
III. ISSAC AS TYPE OF CHRIST.
A. Carried wood.
B. Yielded to will of father.
C. Dead in mind of Abraham three days.
IV. HOW COULD ABRAHAM DO THIS.
A. And repeated.
1. Fab. O.T. Commentary N.T.
2. Heb. 11 "By faith Abraham..."
B. When Isaac asked where is sacrifice. Marvelous prophecy. Jehovah Jireh Jehovah sees vision.
C. Abraham returned.
