The voice of God in nature - irrational view.
I. HOW DID GOD SPEAK TO THE PROPHETS? "DIVERSE MANNERS."
A. Dreams.
1. Joseph.
2. Jacob.
B. Visions.
1. What is a vision?
2. Isaiah.
3. Ezekiel.
C. Angels.
1. Gideon.
2. Daniel.
D. Audible Voice.
1. Moses.
2. Samuel.
E. Inner Voice.
1. Elijah "Still small voice."
II. HOW DOES GOD SPEAK TO US TODAY?
A. Still speaking through nature.
B. Through His Word.
C. Through His Son.
III. THE PURPOSE OF GOD SPEAKING TO MAN.
A. To reveal Himself.
1. Nature's voice limited and ambiguous.
a. Man's concepts confused.
b. Man was looking at fallen nature.
c. Nature's chief witness, God exists.
1. Infinitely powerful.
2. Infinitely wise.
2. The prophets all spoke of man's failure because of sin.
a. They painted dismal pictures in dark colors warning the consequence of continued sin.
b. They all looked forward to a new day.
1. They promised a savior.
2. They promised a kingdom.
3. Jesus Christ has brought us a full revelation of God. "He that hath seen Me, hath..."
a. He revealed a Father with a broken heart.
b. He revealed a God of love and Grace.
1. Willing to go to any end to redeem fallen man.
2. "For God so loved..."
B. Why did God desire to reveal Himself? That we might know Him.
1. Man had developed so many false concepts.
a. Nature sometimes cruel.
b. Prophets messages so filled with judgment people lost message of mercy.
c. "Law came by Moses but grace & truth..."
C. Why does God want us to know Him?
1. That we might fellowship with Him.
a. God created man for this purpose.
b. Any other life empty and unfulfilling.
IV. WHAT HAS GOD SAID?
A. Fellowship with Him is the highest ideal of life.
B. Sin stands in the way of fellowship.
1. Fellowship originally broken by sin.
C. He has made a way for restored fellowship by cleansing us from our sins.
V. WHY JESUS CHRIST IS THE PERFECT VOICE OF GOD.
A. He is God.
1. Heir of all things.
2. Creator of the worlds.
3. In the brightness of glory.
4. The express image of His person.
a. "He that hath seen me..."
B. What did God say in Jesus?
"Come unto me, all ye that labor..."
