"WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM"
I. MASTER PASSION IN EVERY LIFE, MAN CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT GOD.
A. Term God applied to erroneous concepts of deity. Nature, interest, power.
1. Word suggests being superior to man.
2. Whether: kind or cruel. tyrant or benefactor. merciful or vindictive. depends on concept.
3. Everyone has in some form or fashion a god.
a. That which is supreme & controls their life.
B. Out of this universal belief in God has come many forms of worship. Three basic forms mentioned in O.T.
1. Baal - Nature.
2. Molech - Emotions.
3. Mammon - Power.
II. CONTRAST TWO STATEMENTS.
A. Common principle men become like their god.
1. You have a god & you are growing like him.
a. If your god is false, you are becoming false.
b. If your god is hard, you are becoming hard.
c. If your God is tender, you are becoming compassionate.
2. Insensate gods create insensate men.
3. The one living, loving, & eternal God makes men - living, loving, & eternal.
III. DEFINING THE WORSHIPS.
A. The worship of Baal - worship of nature.
1. Deification of intellect.
a. Philosophy - speculations.
2. I will not worship anything that does not come within the grasp of my own intellect - that is Baal worship.
B. Deify emotions - Molech.
1. Descends to lower plane.
a. In that it is higher opposite. is lower
2. When man burns incense to emotional nature, outcome is lust.
3. Love is true deity of emotion.
4. When emotion becomes master, lust is result.
C. Deity passion for power - Mammon.
1. Want to posses wealth, why?
2. More terrible than drink.
3. More terrible than prostitution.
IV. MAN ALWAYS MAKES HIS GOD LIKE HIMSELF.
V. WHENEVER HE MAKES A GOD AFTER HIMSELF HE ALWAYS MAKES IT LESS THAN HIMSELF.
A. Psalm 115.
B. Deifies intelligence what have you.
1. Worships ultimate knowledge.
a. It cannot be known.
b. Leads to agnosticism - confession of ignorance.
C. Deifies emotion, the greatest thing, a thrill, a passion.
1. What does he find? Lust!
2. Seeks to find emotional satisfaction. What does he find? The opposite, hunger!
D. Deify power & you become a slave.
VI. A MAN BECOME LIKE THE GOD HE MAKES.
