箴言12:18中，所罗门所用的比喻表明：“说话鲁莽的，如同利剑刺人；智慧人的舌头却能医治人。”（第18节）言语的力量足以伤人。所罗门将鲁莽的言语比作刀剑的刺击。
鲁莽说话是指不顾时机、真假或后果而随意开口。这种言语伤人，因为它缺乏思考、粗暴或失控。正如刀剑会造成伤害一样，出于愤怒、虚荣或急躁而说出的话语也会造成伤害。
相反，智慧人的言语带来医治。智慧的言语不仅能避免伤害，更能积极地修复。它能安慰受伤的人，纠正迷途的人，弥合冲突造成的创伤。《箴言》反复教导我们，智慧是赐予生命的，而这生命就体现在言语的救赎力量中。
