所罗门在箴言14:6中提出的对比表明：“亵慢人寻求智慧，却寻不见；聪明人却容易得知识。”（第6节）亵慢人的问题不在于缺乏机会，而在于缺乏谦卑的态度。他寻求知识时毫无谦卑之心。
讥诮者或许会提问，但他并非真心想接受教导。他依然骄傲自满，因此智慧对他而言遥不可及。如果内心执迷于嘲弄本应接受的事物，智慧便无法获得。这与箴言的主题不谋而合：讥诮会关闭成长的大门。
但对于有理解力的人来说，知识唾手可得。那些已经具备受教和辨别能力的人，会发现智慧更容易获得，因为他们已经准备好接受它。理解力为更深层次的理解力铺平了道路。谦逊使智慧从晦涩难懂变得触手可及。
