箴言18:12再次将骄傲与谦卑并列： “败坏以先，人心高傲；尊荣以先，谦卑以先。”（第12节）所罗门以此表明，结果往往源于道德。
骄傲的心会因自负和自以为是而抬高自己。这种内在的优越感往往是崩溃的前兆，因为骄傲会使人对危险、纠正和对上帝的依赖视而不见。毁灭很少凭空而来；它往往是由一颗膨胀的心引发的。
相反，谦卑先于荣耀。神的秩序与骄傲的逻辑截然相反。荣耀并非通过自我高举而获得，而是通过谦卑、受教和忠诚而获得。这一原则贯穿整本圣经，并在耶稣身上得到了最充分的体现——祂谦卑自己，却被高举。
