箴言19:7加剧了贫穷带来的孤独： “穷人的兄弟都恨他，何况他的朋友呢？他用言语追赶他们，他们却离他而去。” （第7节）这节经文并非赞同这种状况，而是哀叹其残酷程度。
如果连穷人的兄弟都疏远了他，那么他那些原本就疏远的朋友关系岂不更加脆弱？困苦会暴露许多人际交往的肤浅。苦难往往能让人看清谁是真心爱他，谁只是在顺境中才留在身边。
最后一句尤其令人悲伤：他用言语追寻他们，但他们已然离去。可怜的人或许会尝试修复关系、申诉或重新建立联系，但距离依然存在。所罗门在此揭露了一种令人痛心的社会残酷，以便智者能够看清真相，并抵制成为其中的一份子。
