箴言20:28描述了君王稳固的本质： “忠诚和诚实使君王得保全，他以公义保守自己的王位。”（第28节）君王的稳定并非主要建立在城墙、军队或联盟之上。
忠诚与真理维系着君王。这里的忠诚指的是对盟约的信守，希伯来语为“hesed” ，它蕴含着坚定不移、忠于盟约的爱。一位君王若能与他的子民建立起“hesed”的联结，他所拥有的便远比权力更为深远。
他以公义捍卫王位。同样的原则也适用于任何层级的领导力。权威的持久性首先在于道德，其次才是结构。一个不爱民、不讲真话的领导者，其地位仅仅依靠惯性维系。一旦惯性消失，他的权力也就随之消亡。
