本章以最难懂的一节经文结尾：鞭伤能除掉罪恶，责打能深入内心（第30节）。箴言20:30以体罚的语言作结。
鞭笞象征着痛苦、代价高昂且令人不快的惩戒。所罗门认为，真正的创伤有时能涤荡一切无法触及的罪恶。有些道德败坏根深蒂固，温和的提醒也无法将其清除。
鞭笞直达内心深处。第27节中指代被灯照亮的内心深处的那个词，在这里再次出现，如今指的是管教所触及之处。同样的道理也适用于智慧父亲的管教（箴言13:24），以及耶和华对祂所爱之人的管教（希伯来书12:5-11）。本章以沉重的基调结束，这与前三十节经文所展现的智慧的严肃性十分契合。
