所罗门接着在箴言21:2中谈到了人的自我评价与上帝的审判之间的差距： “人人都以自己所行的为正，惟有耶和华衡量人心。”（第2节）这节经文与箴言16:2和16:25几乎如出一辙。
自我辩解是人心的默认状态。几乎没有人会审视自己的行为并承认错误。耶和华不以人的自我评价为准绳；祂衡量人心。这里所用的动词与商人用天平衡量人心的动词相同——耶和华用真实的尺度来衡量人，而不是人自己选择用来评价自己的标准。
这对研读《箴言》的人来说是一个令人警醒且有益的认识。它能使他免于沾沾自喜，认为自己的道路正确仅仅因为感觉如此就一定是对的。
