The Bible Says
Proverbs 14:30 Meaning

The inner condition described in Proverbs 14:30 shows that A tranquil heart is life to the body, but passion is rottenness to the bones (v. 30). Solomon recognizes the deep connection between the inner life and the body.

A tranquil heart gives life to the body because peace, trust, and inward steadiness align a person with reality. Fighting constantly against reality wears the soul and the body alike. But a heart at rest in God’s order supports life.

Passion here carries the idea of envy or agitated jealousy, and it is rottenness to the bones. Bones represent inward strength. Envious unrest corrodes from within. The proverb teaches that inner disorder is not merely emotional; it has real, life-draining consequences.
