Proverbs 15:10 warns of the cost of leaving wisdom’s path: Grievous punishment is for him who forsakes the way; he who hates reproof will die (v. 10). The proverb joins discipline, path, and outcome in a very direct way.
To forsake the way means to depart from the road of righteousness after knowing better. This is not innocent wandering. It is leaving the life-giving path for another course. Solomon says such a choice invites grievous punishment because reality itself is structured against evil.
The one who hates reproof will die because he refuses the very thing that could turn him back. Correction is meant to rescue, but when it is despised, the person cuts himself off from one of God’s chief means of mercy. Hatred of correction is therefore hatred of life.
