Food imagery continues in Proverbs 15:17: Better is a dish of vegetables where love is than a fattened ox served with hatred (v. 17). What surrounds a meal matters more than what is on the plate.
A simple meal of vegetables can be better if it is shared in love. Love makes even modest provision rich, because it creates fellowship, security, and joy. The verse points to the deeper nourishment of relationship and peace.
A fattened ox, by contrast, suggests abundance and celebration, yet even that becomes bitter when served with hatred. Rich food cannot compensate for a poisoned atmosphere. This proverb reminds us that the moral and relational quality of a home matters more than external luxury.
