The next saying of Proverbs 15:29 returns to God’s relationship with the righteous and wicked: The LORD is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous (v. 29). Distance and nearness here speak morally and relationally.
The Lord is far from the wicked not in the sense that He lacks knowledge of them, but that they do not enjoy the nearness of His favor and fellowship while persisting in rebellion. Wickedness creates alienation. A life bent away from God cannot expect the comfort of intimate communion with Him.
But He hears the prayer of the righteous. The righteous have access because their lives are oriented toward Him in trust and obedience. This is a deeply comforting truth: God is attentive to the prayers of those who sincerely seek Him.
