Attention returns to correction in Proverbs 15:31: He whose ear listens to the life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise (v. 31). To hear correction well is to move into wise company.
The person whose ear listens does more than merely hear sounds. They receive and obey. Reproof is called life-giving because its purpose is not humiliation but rescue. It turns a person away from destruction and back toward wisdom.
Such a person will dwell among the wise, because listening to correction changes where one belongs. It places a person within the community of the teachable. Wisdom is not only a set of ideas; it is a fellowship shaped by humble responsiveness to truth.
