The Bible Says
Proverbs 15:7 Meaning

Proverbs 15:7 makes another contrast about speech: The lips of the wise spread knowledge, but the hearts of fools are not so (v. 7). Wise people become channels through which truth is shared and multiplied.

The lips of the wise spread knowledge because wisdom is outwardly fruitful. The wise do not hoard truth selfishly, nor do they distribute it carelessly. They speak in ways that help others see clearly and live faithfully. Their words benefit the community.

But the hearts of fools are not so. The problem is deeper than speech alone. Their inner life does not contain what can rightly nourish others. Since the heart lacks wisdom, the mouth cannot spread true knowledge. This reminds us that speech always reveals the deeper condition of the person speaking.
