Continuing the theme, Proverbs 16:24 illustrates that Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones (v. 24). Solomon uses the sweetness of honey to describe the effect of wholesome speech.
Pleasant words are not empty niceties. They are words that are fitting, gracious, life-giving, and clean. Because they come from wisdom, they nourish rather than deceive. They are sweet to the soul because they refresh the inner life.
They are also healing to the bones, a vivid way of saying they strengthen the person deeply. Proverbs repeatedly refuses to treat speech as trivial. Wise words can bring real restoration to human life, even at the level of the inner frame.
