The Bible Says
Proverbs 17:11 Meaning

Portraying rebellion as something that invites severe consequence, Proverbs 17:11 reveals that A rebellious man seeks only evil, so a cruel messenger will be sent against him (v. 11). Rebellion here is not independent thought, but stubborn resistance to rightful order.

The rebellious man seeks only evil because his posture is fundamentally opposed to wisdom. He is not simply confused. He has chosen resistance, and that resistance bends his desires toward what destroys. Rebellion becomes not a single act but a settled orientation.

Therefore a cruel messenger will be sent against him. This likely refers to harsh judgment or severe consequence. Solomon’s point is that stubborn rebellion eventually meets a fitting response. God’s world is not structured to reward persistent defiance.
